Following on from a fantastic weekend at Brides the Show we decided to organise a photoshoot to capture the elegance of each of the designs we exhibited. We wanted to keep the shoot clean, simple and chic so each dress could take centre stage and showcase the couture work that went into making the final gowns so special. Ultimately we wanted to show the variety of what we do and the quality, care and skill that goes into each design.
As the festive season approaches and we snuggle up for the long evenings, sip cocktails in our party frocks and join friends in toasting the new year the scent of celebration is in the air. There is no better time to treat yourself to something luxurious and of course this is the season of gift giving. We have noticed a rise in appreciation for high end and bespoke fashion in recent years – that is, rather than buying several pieces of poorly made cheap clothing, our customers are investing in one stand out piece that is made just for them. There is something about the process of having a designer work on a garment just to your taste, style and figure that cannot compare with having the face the freezing cold high street amid a scrum of frenzied Christmas shoppers!
Last night we were delighted to toast the launch of a beautiful exhibition that was a real celebration of Bermondsey Street creative talent! Our neighbours at Eames Fine Art gallery always have fantastic artworks on display and we have come to rely on their prints as a creative pick me up whenever we need inspiration. Their latest exhibition is the first solo show for our friend Sophie Layton whose print work is vibrant, fresh and exquisitely executed. This partnership is made even more special as Sophie is the daughter of our other neighbour, iconic glass artist Peter Layton!
As the party season approaches and the evenings draw in, we’re looking to up the glamour stakes and get our glad rags on. Whether wanting to look effortlessly chic for festive drinks or dazzle at your Christmas party, a bespoke dress is always a great way to start!
Our favourite materials for this season are luxurious, sumptuous and extravagant. We have some beautiful metallic finishes on our fabrics, from gold lace to bronze flecked wool and gorgeous silver-toned silks. Winter is the perfect season for velvet to take centre stage in an elegant evening gown that feels as good as it looks. This is also a great time to pull out a show stopping LBD in one of our British tweeds that come in an array of delicious textures and finishes for a cocktail dress that whispers sexy sophistication. If demure is not for you, we recommend choosing one of our fabulous beaded silks so you can shimmer under the fairy lights and sparkle on the dancefloor.
We had a fantastic time showcasing our couture wedding gowns at Brides the Show last week and meeting lots of lovely new brides-to-be! We wanted to use the show as a chance to display what makes our bridal wear different from other brands. As every gown we make is designed from scratch for every customer and made to measure, we had a challenge choosing what styles to display and materials to use. We decided to show 3 dresses which showed the different styles we’re inspired by for SS14…
The Bermondsey Street Festival this year was beyond our expectations. Every year the festival has grown and become more of an institution not just for Bermondsey but for the whole of London too. This year we had over 20,000 visitors to the street enjoying the best of what we have to offer; from local food, tasty drinks, live music and all the creative, independent boutiques that thrive on Bermondsey Street.
As we look back over the summer Bridal season we have been so lucky to work with beautiful brides on a completely unique wedding dress for their special day. We have now begun the autumn season with new Bridal clients looking for something that defines their style and can’t be found anywhere else. As a designer, there is nothing quite like working on a wedding dress. I am from the old school set of designers where the excitement of fashion comes from creating garments that are made to stand the test of time; made from luxurious materials, made with skill and of course made in London.
While looking in a vintage bookshop recently I came across ‘Helen Shapiro’s New Book for Girls’. Being a fan of all things camp and retro I was enticed by a publication of the singer’s advice, lifestyle and fashion tips. There are some great little articles and comic strips but what stood out immediately was a piece entitled ‘Top Ten Golden Rules of Dress’ by Felicity Green.
